Khammam: Telangana is the only State in the country that is was providing comfortable double bedroom houses free of cost to the poor, Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar said on Wednesday.
He said the construction of double bedroom houses was a flagship programme of the TRS government. The Minister inaugurated newly constructed double bedroom houses at Relakayalapalli and Vishwanathapalli in Singareni mandal in the district on Wednesday.
The Minister informed that Rs 2.20 crore was spent in constructing a total of 44 houses in the mandal. Care was taken to maintain transparency in the allotment of the houses to the beneficiaries without any bias.
In the past, the governments confined the construction and allotment of houses to the poor to papers alone. But the TRS government was spending around Rs 5.5 lakh in constructing each house and handing over the houses to the poor without charging a single rupee, Ajay Kumar said.
The State government introduced the Palle Pragathi programme to maintain proper hygiene and sanitation in rural areas. As part of the programme, over 12,000 Gram Panchayats were equipped with tractors, trolleys and water tankers, besides appointing 9,000 village secretaries.
Every month the government has been releasing funds to each Gram Panchayat based on the village population. The funds should be used to maintain sanitation, dumping yards, nurseries and Palle Prakruthi Vanams in an effective manner, the Minister said.
Referring to a request for setting up a 100-bedded hospital in Singareni mandal, Ajay Kumar said the matter would be taken to the notice of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. The Minister walked around the streets at Vishwanthapalli village.
He expressed anger at the village officials for failing to complete Vaikunta Dhamam works and poor sanitation conditions. He wanted speedy completion of works and warned of serious action against officials if the works were delayed.
District Collector RV Karnan informed that 100 per cent works related to Palle Pragathi have been completed in 589 Gram Panchayats. MLAs L Ramulu Naik, MLC B Lakshminarayana and others were present.
