Hyderabad: Mild tension prevailed at the Central Prison in Chanchalguda when a fan of actor Allu Arjun attempted suicide by setting himself ablaze in front of the main gate, even as the actor was lodged inside on Saturday early hours.
The incident occurred when the actor was lodged in the prison after a local court sent him to a 14-day judicial custody. Though the High Court had granted interim bail, he had to stay in the prison for the night as the bail formalities were not completed.
On hearing of the actor being in the prison, several fans and supporters gathered at the premises protesting his arrest.
Around 2 am, a hardcore fan identified as M Raju (31), an auto-rickshaw driver from Balapur, doused himself with diesel and tried to immolate himself. However, the police personnel who were present there stopped him and immediately shifted him to the police station.
Raju was reportedly distressed over his matinee idol being sent to remand and tried to take the extreme step demanding the actor’s immediate release.
