Narayana Rao, has been underground for over four decades and is a close relative of another top most naxal leader, Muppala Lakshmana Rao, who was the general secretary of the CPI (Maoist). Lakshmana Rao also hails from Birpur village.

Taking a break from their rigorous anti-naxal operations CoBRA-204 and CRPF-151 personnel have set aside their weapons.

The security personnel were ambushed by naxals when they were out on a combing operation in a forest along the border of the Bijapur and Sukma districts of the state.

The encounter took place around midnight in the Barachatti forest area of the district, that is about 100 kms from the state capital here.
