Kothagudem: In a rare display of dedication to public service, Bhadrachalam Town Sub-Inspector of Police, Vijayalakshmi, on Wednesday took up the task of filling up a large pothole on a stretch of the national highway passing through the town.
The huge pothole that formed on the main road at Ambedkar centre in Bhadrachalam had become a trouble for commuters. But neither the Roads and Buildings officials nor the National Highways authorities bothered to repair the road. For the last several weeks, motorists, who did not see the pothole, fell off from their vehicles and suffered injuries. SI Vijayalakshmi, who noticed the pothole and the danger it was causing to bike riders and other vehicles, then decided to fill the pothole.
The SI procured cement, gravel and sand at her own expense and engaged some workers to fill up the pothole on Wednesday besides supervising the work. The officer’s duty-mindedness earned her accolades from many.
A resident of Bhadrachalam town, Venkateswara Rao, thanked the SI for her gesture. Though the problem has to be solved by the R&B or National Highway officials, the SI took up the responsibility of repairing the road to avoid inconvenience to the people and for their safety, and that too at her own expense, which was a rare trait among government officials, he said.
