Hyderabad: Chilly weather conditions continue but not a cold wave
The temperatures have dropped 2-3 degree Celsius at multiple districts, especially those surrounding Hyderabad including Medak, Medchal-Malkajgiri and Sangareddy districts in Telangana.
Hyderabad: While chilly weather conditions have prevailed in Hyderabad and districts for the past few days, the Indian Meteorological Department-Hyderabad and amateur weather enthusiasts on Thursday said that the current conditions cannot be classified as cold wave.
The temperatures have dropped 2-3 degree Celsius at multiple districts, especially those surrounding Hyderabad including Medak, Medchal-Malkajgiri and Sangareddy districts in Telangana.
However, to be classified as a cold wave, temperatures must drop by 4 degree Celsius to 6 degree Celsius. A severe cold wave is often designated when temperatures drop by more than 6.4 degree Celsius.
Officials who are familiar with the ongoing weather conditions, however, said that Telangana is among the Sates that fall under the cold wave zone in India. In addition to Telangana, the rest of the Indian states that are under the cold wave zone include Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, J&K, Ladakh, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, UP, Gujarat, MP, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha.
According to Telangana Development Planning Society (TDPS), in the last 24-hours, the lowest temperatures recorded in parts of Telangana ranged between 12.1 degree Celsius and 13.2 degree Celsius. The minimum temperatures surrounding Hyderabad including districts like Medchal-Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Rangareddy and Medak hovered between 13 degree Celsius and 15 degree Celsius.
According to IMD-Hyderabad, the ongoing weather conditions, where temperatures will remain two to three degree Celsius less than the normal temperatures, will continue for another 8 days.
