Adilabad: Holy Christmas festival the birth of Jesus Christ was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety across erstwhile Adilabad district on Saturday. Special mass prayers and community service programmes marked the occasion.
About 10,000 devotees belonging to different parts of the district thronged Calvary Church on the outskirts of Bellampalli town. They participated in a special prayer and worshipped Jesus Christ. Pastor Praveen Kumar, addressing the gathering, said that Christ was a symbol of world peace and harmony. He added that Christ was the lord of the humans.
Bellampalli MLA Durgam Chinnaiah was the chief guest of the event. He was joined by municipal chairperson Jakkula Swetha. They cut cakes as part of the festivities. Chinnaiah said that the government was distributing gifts to the financially poor Christians helping them celebrate the festival with pride. Students performed cultural programmes, enthralling audiences.
Around 5,000 devotees from several parts of the district and surrounding Jagtial, Peddapalli, Nizamabad and Hyderabad, congregated at one of the oldest and largest Churches in Luxettipet town. Pastor B Karunakar read the messages of the Lord from the sacred text Bible. He said that only Lord’s teachings could reduce conflicts and bring peace to the world.
In the meantime, MLA Diwakar Rao took part in Christmas celebrations in different Churches on Saturday. He was chief guest of the colorful celebrations held at a Church of South India’s Church in Mancherial district headquarters. He conveyed greetings of the festival to Christians. He advised the people to follow the teachings of Christ. He hailed the Lord for his matchless sacrifice for offering peace and compassion to the world.
He was joined by municipal chairperson P Rajaih. Agriculture Market Committee Chairman P Bhumesh, councilor S Harikrishna and Nadipelli Charitable Trust chairman N Vijith were present.
Similar colorful celebrations of Christmas were witnessed in Nirmal, Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts.
