Hyderabad: In an attempt to prove Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrong, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy wrote to Modi on Sunday, in the process, admitting that the crop loan waiver implemented by the Congress government covered only 22.22 lakh farmers and that it would be extended to the remaining farmers after they clear the amount above Rs.2 lakh limit. He said the State government had disbursed Rs.17,869.22 crore towards the crop loan waiver.
In response to the Prime Minister’s allegations that the Congress government failed to implement the crop loan waiver, Revanth Reddy claimed that the State government implemented the scheme successfully within its first year of governance.
“Every crop loan below Rs 2 lakh was waived totally as promised,” he said, adding that farmers who had a loan above Rs 2 lakh, would get the waiver once they cleared the amount above the Rs.2 lakh limit.
He claimed that farmers in Telangana believed that “Congress Guarantee was a Golden Guarantee” and hoped that his initiatives served as a model for other States in prioritising the agriculture sector. He also sought the Prime Minister’s cooperation and guidance to promote farmers welfare in Telangana.
