Nirmal: A couple was arrested for allegedly stealing offerings in temples in different parts of the district. They were produced before pressmen in Bhasina town on Tuesday. Police seized Rs 10,000 in cash from the duo.
Briefing details of the arrests, Bhainsa ASP Avinash Kumar said that Puli Pradeep from Shashtrinagar in Bhainsa town and Kodali Venkata Laxmi were apprehended while moving suspiciously during a vehicle-check.
During the course of interrogations, Pradeep confessed to committing the offences to lead a lavish lifestyle using shortcut ways for quite a long time. He admitted to decamping with offerings in temples located in Bhainsa, Kubheer, Mudhole, Basar and Narsapur (G) mandals. He disclosed that they were targeting the temples at night by travelling in a car.
ASP said that the couple were held while returning to Bhainsa after lifting offerings from hundial at Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy temple at Pardi (B) village in Kubheer mandal.
Meanwhile, SP Dr Janaki Sharmila commended Bhainsa Rural Inspector Nylu, Kubheer SI Ravinder, ASIs Ramdas, and Devarao and constable Deepak Singh for arresting the two by showing spontaneity.
