Hyderabad: It is early morning and the Parade Ground at the Cyberabad Commissionerate in Gachibowli is abuzz with activity. Several men and women in sportswear are practising different techniques of self defense, physical exercises while a few just jog around to warm up.
This has been a regular scene at the ground for the last one month with men and women who are from various units of the Cyberabad Police coming early in the morning and going through the rigorous training. The Cyberabad Police started the programme for constables of the 2020 batch and so far around 298 of them have completed the one week refresher course in tactical training in three batches.

Cyberabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar, who prepared the one-week course, said it was intended to complete the tactical training of the force.
“The aim of the training is to instill confidence among the policemen,” he said, adding that during the week-long training, the personnel are trained in house intervention, close combat skills, vehicle interception and search, weapon disarming and retention techniques, human rights, integrated use of force and surveillance. The training also includes Battle Obstacles Assault Course (BOAC), Unarmed Combat (UAC), self-defense tactics, vehicle search, yoga, lifting techniques, and fire control.

A special class on bomb detection and disposal is also held wherein personnel are trained about the list of do’s and don’ts of handling Improvised Explosive Devices. Sajjanar said the foundation of policing depends on skill -based procedures like arresting, frisking, room clearing, vehicle interception and search.

“Many a time, police personnel have fallen victims to violence as they were unable to protect themselves. The course was designed to ensure this does not happen,” he said.
The training is being held in batches and began on June 21 this year. The Commissioner said the training programme would be extended to officers of the Cyberabad police as well in the coming days. Chief Drill Master Reserve Inspector Suman and Sub-inspector Pradeep are overseeing the training along with their staff.
