Siddipet: Folk singer Sruthi (26), who died, allegedly by suicide, at Peerlapally in Jagadepur mandal on Wednesday, was reportedly pregnant.
Her suicide created a sensation as she ended her life after marrying her lover Erra Dayakar just 21 days ago. Sruthi, a native of Timmapur in the Nizamabad district, was a well-known folk singer on YouTube.
Her family members, who reached Peerlapally after being informed about the suicide, alleged that Dayakar had harassed her for dowry. The reason for her decision to end her life remained a mystery. Police sources revealed that she was pregnant while ending her life.
Family members of neither Dayakar nor Sruthi could reveal what exactly was the motive for Sruthi to end her life. Her death left the folk singers’ fraternity in shock. They felt that Sruthi had a bright future as a singer.
Jagadevpur police have registered a case and are investigating.
