Hyderabad: Questioning the inordinate delay in payment of salaries for Anganwadi workers in the state, BRS leader and former Minister T Harish Rao on Saturday criticized the Congress government for the way it has been handling the issue of the employees. The government has promised the employees of timely payment of salaries, but the ground reality was otherwise. Thousands of Anganwadi teachers and helpers have not received their salaries even 14 days into the next month.
Harish Rao highlighted the dire situation where even the rents for Anganwadi centers have not been paid for the past 10 months. He pointed out that this was the unfortunate achievement of one year of Congress rule. Drawing the attention of the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, he said 39,568 Anganwadi teachers and helpers are still waiting for their salaries.
Taking to social media, he criticized the government for causing hardships not only to Anganwadi workers but also to retired teachers and employees. “Despite High Court orders, you are withholding rightful retirement benefits, leaving them distressed”, he added. The delay in salaries has affected lakhs of people, including Anganwadi teachers, helpers, retired teachers, employees, contract workers, and outsourcing employees. “Keep your word and pay the salaries on time,” he demanded.
