Hyderabad: A rowdy sheeter was shot dead by unidentified persons on the RCI Road in Balapur on the city outskirts on Thursday night. A previous enmity would have led to the murder, police suspect.
The victim, identified as Riyaz (39), was returning after a liquor party at a local bar on his motorbike when unidentified assailants who came in a car chased for a distance and intercepted him. They attacked him with iron rods and stabbed with sharp weapons first and later opened fire. He suffered multiple grievous injuries and died on the spot.
According to the police, Riyaz, a resident of Baba Nagar, against whom a rowdy sheet was active in Kanchanbagh police station, was involved in several criminal cases, including murder. Police suspect the involvement of rival gang members, particularly given Riyaz’s history with another rowdy-sheeter, would be behind the killing.
The Balapur police recovered bullet shells from the crime spot and Rachakonda Police Commissioner G Sudheer Babu visited the spot and enquired details from the investigation officer.
Special teams have been formed to nab the suspects at the earliest. The footage from the surveillance cameras in the vicinity is being examined and it was learnt the police have detained three persons in connection with the murder for questioning.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Riyaz was involved in six murder cases and a rowdy sheet was opened against him in 2004. He was also involved in the murder of Mohd Fazal, a rowdy sheeter in 2013.
