A retired SCCL employee brought dead Russell’s viper to SCCL Main Hospital in Kothagudem for treatment.
Kothagudem: Bitten by a Russell’s viper, a retired SCCL employee killed the snake and rushed to SCCL Main Hospital in Kothagudem along with the dead snake for treatment.
The retired employee, Janga Odelu, was growing vegetables in his field near Penuballi after his retirement. When he was working in the field the snake bit him on Friday. Normally anyone who was bitten by a snake panics, but Odelu ran after the snake, killed it, packed it in a polythene cover.
Then he reached his house four kilometres away from his farm field on a two-wheeler, took the Singareni hospital book and went to the hospital’s casualty wing for treatment. Doctors, staff and patients undergoing treatment at the hospital panicked on seeing the snake in the cover.
Odelu told them that the snake was dead and he brought it to the hospital with him for its identification to ensure a proper diagnosis and treatment. Though Odelu’s action frightened the people in the casualty wing at first, he was later appreciated for his daring act. His condition was said to be stable.
