Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Saturday extended advance Christmas greetings to the people of Telangana. He participated in pre-Christmas celebrations in the Jubilee Hills constituency along with local MLA Maganti Gopinath, several senior party leaders and Christian religious leaders.
The celebrations included a cake-cutting ceremony and special prayers with religious leaders. Wishing everyone a joyous Christmas filled with love, peace and happiness, he emphasized the significance of the festival and the importance of unity and harmony among different communities.
Speaking on the occasion, Rama Rao recalled the efforts made by the BRS government for the welfare of Christians. He mentioned that the previous government led by K Chandrashekhar Rao was the first to recognize Christmas as a State festival and declare a special holiday.
The government also provided special festival gifts to Christian sisters, which were unfortunately discontinued by the current Congress government. He pointed out that the previous government implemented several welfare programmes, including a Rs.20 lakh scholarship for poor Christian students enabling them to pursue education abroad.
He also mentioned the construction of a Christian Bhavan in the city, which is nearing completion, and the simplification of the approval process for church constructions and the development of Christian graveyards. He expressed concern over the Congress government’s decision to halt the tradition of festival gifts and welfare schemes introduced by the BRS government.
