Deeksha Diwas holds immense significance in Telangana’s history, symbolizing the pivotal indefinite hunger strike initiated by Chandrashekar Rao on November 29, 2009. This moment, which galvanised the people of Telangana across social and political spectrums, was a turning point in the statehood movement.
The hunger strike, famously undertaken with the slogan of “Telangana will be achieved, or KCR will perish,” united the region in an unprecedented manner. As a result, the Centre was compelled to announce the formation of Telangana, fulfilling a decades-long aspiration of its people.
In a statement, Rama Rao dubbed the event as the foundation stone of Telangana’s statehood. He reminded how Chandrashekhar Rao’s determination and the collective efforts of Telangana people shook the Indian political establishment, leading to the realisation of their dream for a separate State.
BRS leaders and activists are expected to organise widespread events to honour the struggle and sacrifices that led to the creation of Telangana.
