Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao called on the Centre to provide detailed information about its approach to the One Nation-One Election initiative. Stressing on the need for transparency regarding how the government plans to integrate the State Assembly and the Parliament polls, he said the BRS would formulate its official stance only after the Centre clarified its plans.
“The Union government must present a clear plan for One Nation-One Election to the public. It is crucial that citizens understand how these elections will be conducted,” he stated, in response to the Union Cabinet’s decision on the One Nation-One Election proposal.
With nearly four years remaining before the next parliamentary elections, Rama Rao asked the Centre whether the current State governments would be dissolved prematurely to sychronise the State and the national elections or whether it would be implemented in a phased manner. He also emphasised the need for wide consultations addressing numerous other issues, before moving forward with the proposal.
The BRS working president pointed out that alongside discussions on this initiative, the country needed to undertake a comprehensive census and delimitation of both parliamentary and assembly seats as per the constitutional mandate. He also highlighted the need for the immediate implementation of the already approved Women’s Reservation Act in legislatures.
The BRS would hold internal discussions to decide its official position on the issue, he added.
