Telangana’s hidden gem with majestic spire and rich history celebrates centenary

Medak Cathedral

Medak Cathedral  is one of the largest churches in Telangana. It will celebrate its centenary on  December 25, 2024.

Reverend Charles Walker Posnett and his family funded the cathedral. The cathedral was consecrated as the central place of  worship in 1924.

It is designed in the Gothic Revival architectural style. The church spans  100 feet in width and 200 feet in length.

The tower's height was controversially higher than  the Charminar. Stained glass windows depict scenes from  Christ's life.

The cathedral features imported mosaic tiles. Italian masons laid the decorative flooring.

It can hold up to  5,000 people. The bell tower stands at an impressive  175 feet.
