Officials appear before commission as kaleshwaram open inquiry resumes
The open inquiry session focused on the structural integrity and safety protocols of the Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages. Justice Ghose inquired whether model studies were conducted as required before the construction of the barrages.
Hyderabad: Officials from the Telangana Engineering Research (TERL) Laboratories and the State Dam Safety Organisation appeared before the Judicial Commission led by Justice P.C. Ghose, which is investigating the construction of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS).
The open inquiry session focused on the structural integrity and safety protocols of the Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages. Justice Ghose inquired whether model studies were conducted as required before the construction of the barrages.
TERL officials confirmed that model studies were performed three times: before construction and after construction. The officials highlighted that impounding water on such a large scale could lead to structural issues. They noted that the Medigadda barrage had received record inflows in 2022, which could exacerbate these concerns.
