School memoirs of Maria Kumar, former DGP Madhya Pradesh, launched

Hydeabad: A book titled ‘Golden Days of Growing Up’, a nostalgic recollection of school days by B. Maria Kumar, former Director General of Police, Madhya Pradesh, was released on Monday. The event took place at St. Joseph’s High School in Rentachintala, with the school’s Correspondent, Fr. Peter Papaiah, releasing the book as Chief Guest of the occasion.
Maria Kumar, an alumnus of the school and a native of Rentachintala, shared in his memoir a vivid portrayal of unique moments and cherished episodes from his formative years. His reflections delve not only into his personal experiences at the school but also into the rural life and culture, depicting the essence of a bygone era.
The event turned deeply emotional as many of the author’s classmates and friends gathered to celebrate the milestone, including Thumma Lourdu Reddy, Kondasani Anjaneya Reddy, Jangam Devadas, Munna Linga Murthy, Khande Venkata Prabhakar Rao, Somasani Peri Reddy, Kampa Francis, Elijala Sebastian, Jakkireddy Satyanarayana Reddy, Pagadala Marianna, Marri Philomen Raju, and others.
The book features a touching foreword by the author’s classmate, Fr. Putty Sundar Raju, currently serving as Rector in Guntur. Adding to its significance, Maria Kumar brought out this anthology of childhood memories as part of the 75th-anniversary celebrations of St. Joseph’s High School which was established way back in 1949.
During his address, Fr. Peter Papaiah commended the author’s vivid narration and thoughtful presentation, which, he said, offered a memorable glimpse into how timeless educational values have shaped lives for the better. He emphasised that the book serves as an inspiration for current and future generations, encouraging them to pursue excellence through curiosity, kindness, and dedication.
