Hyderabad: The State government has procured 21.73 lakh metric tonnes of paddy worth Rs 5040.012 crore so far as part of the MSP operation. Despite this substantial procurement, only Rs.2,760.22 crore has been paid to the farmers so far. The procurement included 5.67 lakh metric tonnes of fine varieties as against 16.06 lakh metric tonnes of coarse varieties.
The procurement of the fine varieties involved bonus payment to the tune of Rs 283.25 crores. However, only Rs 8.17 crore of this amount has been disbursed so far. The government has announced an incentive bonus of Rs 500 per quintal on the fine varieties. The procurement process has involved a total of 350,311 farmers, with paddy being brought to procurement centers in large quantities as harvests continue in full swing.
The announced bonus for fine variety paddy has seen 78,686 farmers cultivating this variety, while 271,655 farmers have cultivated coarse variety paddy.
