Hyderabad: In a move to curb proxy teachers, the School Education Department directed government-run schools under its ambit to mandatorily display photographs of teachers in the common area of the school premise.
School Education director EV Narasimha Reddy recently issued an order instructing government and local body schools, KGBVs, Model Schools and TGREIS schools to implement with immediate effect.
For this purpose, the School Education director asked the schools to make provision where teachers’ photographs are updated in case of transfer or retirement. “All District Educational Officers & Ex-Officio District Project Officers in the State are requested to instruct all the Headmasters/Special Officers/Principals respectively of Government, Local body, URS, KGBV, TSMS and TREIS managements to display teachers’ photographs in a common area in school premises preferably in teacher civil list,” Reddy said.
The DEOs have been asked to instruct the district coordinators, MEOs, MNOs, Complex HMs etc. to monitor the activity during their visits and see that 100 per cent schools implement the rule. Apart from proxy teachers, the initiative is aimed at addressing teachers absenteeism.
Due to the issue of proxy teachers in the government schools across the country, the Ministry of Education recently directed all States to display teachers’ photographs in the common area of the school. In fact, this was one of the priority areas of the third Chief Secretaries conference recently conducted by the Ministry.
In some remote areas in Khammam district, it is learnt, some senior teachers hired proxy teachers from the villages for Rs 10,000. Further, there are allegations that some teacher unions leaders do not attend their work in schools despite not possessing on duty authorisation from the State government. Now, the initiative will help students identify teachers’ absenteeism.
