The issue cropped up when the vehicle driver, who lived in a nearby village, entered into an argument with the toll plaza management over the toll charges.
After stopping the car, the police found that two people were inside, and there were Rs 2,07,50,000 (two crore seven lakhs) in cash in five bags, an official said.
Chinnaiah clarified that he had not assaulted the staffers of the plaza. He said people were unhappy over collection of the fees before completing the works of Mancherial-Chandrapur national highway.
In a CCTV video clip circulated after the incident, Chinnaiah was seen slapping a staffer. It is learnt that he attacked the staffer for asking him to pay toll even when the work on the national highway was not yet completed.
