With weddings becoming more intimate and small affairs, the brains behind the brand Kalki Fashion decided to take the current situation into account and came out with their new collection Kesa 2.0 which is apt for the hot summers. Kesa 2.0 is a mix of finely crafted Indo-westerns, multi-flared suits, jacket suits, and handcrafted Anarkali gowns, which are ideal for chic summer weddings, and lightly embroidered crop-tops that work well for evening events.
With bridal trousseaus going beyond the traditional cuts, the collection adheres to a good mix of light pastels in whisper whites and creampuff peach blending into a cornucopia of tangerines and icy pinks. For the brides who want to try out a bridal or bridesmaid ensemble other than reds, they can definitely opt for newer colour palettes such as ivory, sage greens, and other pastel hues that give out an ethereal appeal.
“We worked on the collection during the lockdown. People aren’t looking at wearing heavy stuff and want something comfortable for small events with 30-odd people. We have options of restyling in different ways and wear the same outfit for different events, like wear it with a jacket or dupatta. A corset blouse could be changed to a full-sleeved blouse. So, there’s lot of room for experimentation,” says Nishit Gupta, director, Kalki.
The collection is a play on organic and futuristic embellishments, mother-of-pearl-inspired details, and colourful climber vine embroideries. The outfits are a fusion between ruffled and crinkled tulle creating a lush vibrancy emotive of gardens. With candy-hued organza, opulent sheers, raw silk, and the lightness of tulle, the handcrafted designs will definitely make the wearer stand out in the crowd.

Catering to a lot of NRI clients for the past nine years, going digital in their functioning was natural for them. “We started as a brand focusing on the NRI market. And we have a great team of designers and tailors who are able to get accurate measurements of the client who may or may not be in the country. So customising was never an issue. And we have stylists on hand who can also do the shopping for you through video calls,” says Nishit. He adds that bridal trends have changed significantly.
“The new-age bride wants something expressive. We don’t follow trends but make something different each time, styles that people haven’t come out with. We are giving customers the opportunity to express themselves in the most comfortable clothes. The same idea holds true when we are designing a new collection,” adds Nishit.
Kesa 2.0 is live on the label’s website now.
