Hyderabad: Continuing its efforts to identify and initiate action against unqualified individuals (quacks) practicing allopathy, the Telangana State Medical Council (TSMC) conducted raids on clinics that were being run in Kodad.
The raids were conducted at facilities of three quacks, K Veera Reddy, Shaikh Sultan and Md Mahabub Ali, who were practicing allopathy out of facilities that had fully equipped medical beds.
“The quacks were utilizing the beds to administer saline, antibiotics and steroid injections. The quacks also had put-up sign boards declaring themselves as doctors with prefix of ‘Dr’. Our teams have collected evidences including prescriptions, syringes etc and complaints will be registered against them in the respective police stations,” Chairman, TSMC, Dr K Mahesh Kumar said.
According to members of TSMC who were part of the raids, the quacks also did not have a proper way to deal with bio medical waste and syringes, needles, gloves, hospital linen etc were discarded on roads, along with the normal domestic waste.
“Evidence regarding improper discarding of bio-medical waste was also collected. We will go for harsh punishment including one-year of jail term and a minimum of Rs 5 lakh towards penalty,” the TSMSC said.
Complaints will be filed on the quacks with the local police stations based on the sections of 34 and 54 of the National Medical Commission (NMC).
