Worm-infested breakfast served to Maganoor schoolchildren at govt hospital
Though the hospital management tried to cover up the issue, the news soon came out. When a few BRS leaders tried to visit the students at the hospital, the police tried to stop them and arguments took place between them.
Mahabubnagar: It can hardly get worse than this. Students from the Maganoor Zilla Parishad High School, who were admitted to the Government General Hospital here following food poisoning, were served worm-infested upma for breakfast at the hospital on Thursday morning. The 15 students were served upma, kichdi and other dishes for breakfast in the hospital.
However, while consuming the food, the students noticed worms in the kichdi and upma. They immediately alerted the nurses on duty and hospital staff. The videos of students complaining from the hospital beds about the worm-infested food served to them went viral on social media platforms.
Though the hospital management tried to cover up the issue, the news soon came out. When a few BRS leaders tried to visit the students at the hospital, the police tried to stop them and arguments took place between them.
Later, former Minister V Srinivas Goud visited the hospital and spoke to the students. Addressing media persons later, he said it was highly condemnable that students, who were admitted in the hospital due to food poisoning, were served with stale and worm infested food.
“I personally spoke to the students and the nurses on duty. They said worms were noticed in upma and other dishes served to the students. The nurses also informed us that the food was immediately thrown away,” Srinivas Goud said. “Is this the way the government handles this situation when the students’ health was getting affected? If any untoward incidents occur, who should be held responsible and who will be answerable to the students’ parents?” he asked.
